Let’s now go back to the example of the teacher with a lesson in the first half year. Untis calculates an average yearly value of 0.513. The value of the lesson in the second half year is therefore 19/39 = 0.487.
If as a scheduler you would like to equate the value of lessons in the first and in the second half year manually, you need to enter 0.50 into the “Factor” field.
The factors calculated by Untis are thus manually overwritten. Please note that calculated factors are displayed in italics and in grey, manually entered factors are displayed in bold and black.
Whenever you overwrite a factor automatically calculated by Untis, the original value is also always displayed in a tool tip. The tool tip shown above the heading always reminds you that the factor corresponds to an average yearly value of a one period lesson.
Consequently, the value of teacher LH1’s lesson changes to 0.500.
The formula of the weekly values
pre-defines the values of the YEARLY AVERAGE with 0.5, and the NUMBER OF SCHOOL WEEKS with 39. The contributions to the sum total in the individual cells of the weekly values must change.
In this case, the outcome of 0.5 is manually pre-defined, the lesson runs for 20 weeks and so the question arises of how high the weekly value x needs to be in order to get this outcome. This results in the following simple equation:
The formula therefore is:
This outcome may initially be a surprise to many a scheduler, however, it is only logical, since the “natural” mean value of the lesson, which is based on 1 period per week, has been manually changed.
In general, the value of a single lesson shown in the individual lines of the weekly value window is calculated as follows:
It sometimes is easier to use the term CALCULATED FACTOR for the term ACTIVITY IN SCHOOL YEAR for better understanding.
If the yearly average value is not manually changed, the term DISPLAYED IN FACTOR FIELD / ACTIVITY IN SCHOOL YEAR usually is 1 and the entries of the weekly values are whole-numbered.
If the factor of the lesson group was not changed, the calculation would look as follows:
IMPORTANT!
An entry in the "Factor" field of a lesson group changes the values in the individuals lines in the "Weekly value" window in the setting "Lessons / values".
Lesson group with manual factor – second half year
If teacher LH2 only teaches a lesson in the second half year (again with one period per week), a yearly average of 19/39 = 0.487 is calculated.
If you define the yearly average of lesson group H2 with 0.500, the entries in the weekly value window change. The calculation of a single weekly value thus looks as follows (according to the example of the first half year):
