This chapter describes how to work with student groups to guaranteed that they are displayed
correctly in both programs (Untis and WebUntis).
If you need student groups in WebUnits, you need to create them in Untis first. It is the responsibility
of the timetable scheduler to create such student groups in Untis first. Users are not permitted to
create, delete or change the name of student groups in WebUntis,
You can choose a name of a student group absolutely freely, either combinations comprising
subject and class (D_1A), or descriptive names (volleyball grades 9 to 12).
If you have defined a name for a student group, it can be rather risky and in general not possible
to do so during the school year! Define for every lesson which is only attended by a part of a class,
a student group name in Untis. Do this also, when all students
attend the respective lesson at the beginning of the school year, but there is a possibility that this may change during the school year (e.g. due to new students), i.e. later in the year, not all
students of the respective class take part in this lesson. The "Subject | Student group" combination
for a name is a unique identification of a lesson in WebUntis. If there is no student group defined for
a respective lesson, the "Subject | Class" combination will identify the lesson. The lesson number then only has an informative character in WebUntis.
Lessons with the same "Subject | Student group" combination (or "Subject | Class" combination
when a student group is missing) are merged to one single lesson when they are exported from
Untis to WebUntis. Before you modify lessons in Untis, you need to create a new term.
If in this new term, a lesson coupling is profoundly modified (coupling line is deleted
or modifications in the subject, class or student group field), we recommend to copy
the existing lesson and insert it so that a new lesson number is assigned.
The aforementioned profound modifications are to be made in the new lesson number (Make sure that the correct student groups are assigned to the correct coupling lines!), while the old lesson
number is deleted in the new term (see item 1.2 for more information).
The modified lesson is then to be exported to WebUntis with the term start of the new term.
How to withdraw rights
Since you must not create student groups in WebUnits, we recommend to withdraw all users
the right to create student groups in WebUntis. Remove the check of the boxes
'Cre' (create) and 'Del' (delete) for the "Student assignment" right of the respective user group,
and all checks for the right "Master data student group". Assigning students to the student groups still is possible with this right assignment.
This has the additional advantage that teacher see where it is necessary to define the attending students (e.g. split lesson).
